Henley Lake park covers 43 hectares adjacent to the Ruamahanga and Waipoua Rivers on the North East boundary of Masterton. The lake itself covers 11 hectares and includes 4 small islands. The lake and its surrounding environment is pretty much an ecological classroom with streams, ponds, wetlands, lagoons, plantings of native and exotic trees, and a great network of paths joining everything up.
Dogs are allowed off leash except in signposted areas between August and November (nesting season).

Pros: So much space and variety for the dogs...grass and paved areas, swamp, lake and river options for swimming
Cons: There is a small ill-defined leashed area, but I have seen few people observe this.
Not much else to say about Henley Lake - it is a dog's paradise and also a great walk for dog owners.
There are plenty of dog walkers using Henley Lake so it is great for dog socialising.
Henley Lake a nesting area for birds so be sure to observe the nesting season signs.
The area is frequented by all sorts of people from around the area so be considerate of the non-dog walkers and cyclists.
